An explanation of the different file formats

The extracts from the Millennium Composition are available in three formats:
As Wav files, as Mp3 files and as Sibelius files.

If you need help with how to use these files please read the explanation below.

If you are familiar with these formats please go directly to the recordings.


 WAV File logo As WAV files
(Sound only)
These are the shortest extracts and are in mono only.
Clicking on the icon will download and play the extract.
You should be able to listen to these files without having to install any new software.

 Mp3 file logo As Mp3 files
(Sound only)
These are high quality, full length stereo extracts in the Mp3 format. Clicking on the icon will download and play the extract using Windows Media Player which should have been installed with Windows.
Your Media Player may not be set to play Mp3 files or you may have an older version of Media Player that does not support Mp3 files.
Find out if you need to upgrade your Windows Media Player and check to see that it is set up correctly to play Mp3 files.)

sibelius file logo As a Sibelius Score (Sound and Score) These are high quality, full length stereo extracts presented with a musical score. Clicking on the icon will download and play the extract. (You will need to have the Sibelius Plugin installed on your computer to see and hear Sibelius scores.)

CHECKLIST for playing Mp3 files

First of all we need to check if your Media player is able to play Mp3 files.
(You may want to print this out for reference.)

Click on 'Start'
Point to 'Programs'
Point to ' Accessories'
Point to ' Multimedia'
Click on 'Windows Media Player'

Click on 'View'
Click on 'Options'
Click on 'Formats'

Scroll down the list of supported formats.
Is Mp3 listed?
If it is, make sure that there is a tick in the box next to Mp3. You should now be able to play Mp3 files.

No sign of Mp3?
Tried to follow the instructions but they did not seem to work?

You probably need to upgrade your Windows Media Player (free).
Go to the Microsoft Windows Media Player page for a free upgrade and follow their instructions.
(When you have finished, return to this page and go back through the CHECKLIST for playing Mp3 files again.)
