Martin Read - The Hampshire Music 2000 Composer
MARTIN READ is Head of Music at Alton College and has a national
reputation as a composer. Martin was born in Birmingham, studied music at
Colchester Institute and Goldsmith's College, London, where he completed his
M.Mus in composition. His music has been performed by numerous ensembles and
choirs, including the Britten Sinfonia, Tapestry, Cambridge New Music Players,
Camarada, Holst Singers, Bath Camerata and Winchester Cathedral Choir.
Martin says,
"The Hampshire Music 2000 commission is a unique opportunity that
I am proud to be part of. It should be a festival of Hampshire. From the
earliest time this county has been near to the heart of England's history. Out
of this colourful pageant of history have come wonderful stories of great
people and events. It will be my job to assist each of the various school, area
and county ensembles in bringing history back to life with all its original
colour and vigour - Hampshire's lively past becomes our present
enjoyment".
